For years, Atlanta has been facing an HIV epidemic, one Dr. Carlos del Rio told the AJC was “as bad” as some third world countries. For a number of reasons, our Southern and developed metropolis has been afflicted with this disease — reasons such as social issues like homelessness and unemployment, as well as the discrimination and stigma that just can’t seem to be tackled.

WHEN LÁDEIA Joyce learned she had tested positive for HIV in 2016, she immediately began looking for information on the disease, how to treat it and how to learn to live with it.
What she found seemed aimed at a completely different person.

During a three-day visit to Cameroon, UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibé named the First Lady, Chantal Biya, as a Special Advocate. Through her foundation and the non-profit organization African Synergy against AIDS and Suffering, Ms Biya has been advocating for the protection, education and health of women and children for more than 20 years, especially in the context of HIV.

Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, and South Africa have released new survey data on progress towards the 2020 targets. The Cameroon and Côte d’Ivoire population-based HIV impact assessment (PHIA) surveys and the South African survey all studied knowledge of HIV status, new HIV infections, condom use, voluntary medical male circumcision, antiretroviral therapy coverage, viral suppression and other indicators.

Cameroon recorded a decline in number of HIV/AIDS infections in the last seven years, according to Minister of Public Health Malachie Manaouda.

For Professor Torimiro, her research journey started years ago in the rainforests of Cameroon where she observed how hunter-gatherers live in close proximity to animals. At the time, she was among the first Cameroonian scientists to study zoonoses -- disease or infections that are transmissible from animals to humans.

Thanks to significant medical advancements, those diagnosed with HIV can expect to live relatively normal lives. But with a recent surge in local rates of other sexually transmitted diseases and an uptick in new HIV cases, has clinical success created a sense of apathy among Coloradans?

È stato inaugurato oggi, presso la Casa dei Diritti di via De Amicis 10, il primo checkpoint comunale per fare gratuitamente il test per l’Hiv.
L’iniziativa era stata annunciata lo scorso 1° dicembre quando Milano aveva aderito ufficialmente al progetto internazionale Fast Track Cities, un network di città che si impegnano a mettere in atto azioni comuni di prevenzione dell’Aids e la riduzione dello stigma e delle discriminazioni nei confronti di chi ha contratto il virus.
